St. Volodymyr Cultural Centre (Oakville) Inc. was built in 1988 by the St. Volodymyr Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral in Toronto to commemmorate the millenium of Christianity in Ukraine.
The Centre was named after Prince Volodymyr the Great who accepted Christianity for himself and for the Ukrainian people one thousand years ago. St. Volodymyr Cultural Centre has become a valuable asset to Oakville and the surrounding area as it provides members of the community with the opportunity to gather together, to develop and strengthen friendships and to partake in various educational, recreational and cultural activities. The design of St. Volodymyr Cultural Centre reflects the Ukrainian culture and traditions. The patterns and colours on the floors and on the walls in the rotunda and banquet halls portray various forms of Ukrainian art including those depicted on embroidery, paintings, pysanky and wood carvings.
