We’re pleased as punch to have a guest blog feature from Liz and Danielle. The friendly and fabulous wedding planning duo from Gush Events here in Toronto. Read below to discover their list of the 5 best ways to personalize your wedding.
Choose a space that is a reflection of you as a couple.Your wedding is a celebration of your relationship, so it should be unique to the two of you! If you are lovers of the great outdoors then plan your wedding in a venue that somehow embraces nature, not in a banquet hall. Or say you met in a painting class, why not choose an art gallery like the AGO. Maybe you both share a passion for teaching? An old school house like Enoch Turner would be a great fit. Get creative with your choices and pick a location that you both love.
The overall theme for your big day will be the best way to showcase your personalities.
If you want guests to feel like your wedding exudes you, pick a vision that includes things from your everyday life. If you are big animal lovers incorporate your pets into the wedding (for example, instead of table numbers use a different photo of your dog at each table). Perhaps you both love to spend your weekends at the theatre, why not design your program as a playbill and your invites like theatre tickets. When it comes to themes the options are really limitless.
Personalize your ceremony by writing your own vows and incorporating traditions that are important to you and your family. Write down a few things you love most about the other person (in secret) and have the officiant read it aloud during the ceremony before your vows or instead of a traditional sand ceremony introduce your own ritual such as a wedding time capsule. Honour your heritage and roots by including photos of your family/ancestors on their wedding day. These can be placed on the signing table or hung in reception area for your guests viewing pleasure.
4. Food & Beverage
Tantalize your guests’ taste buds! When choosing the menu for your celebration try incorporating some of your personal favourite dishes and bite size snacks. Not sure where to begin? Think about your favourite pastimes as a couple. If you love wine and touring vineyards have a wine tasting station with your favourite wines. If you both live for comfort foods from your childhood why not include grilled cheese sandwiches and soup, or milk and cookies, for your guests to enjoy during cocktail hour.
Choose a favour that reflects your personal style. There are loads of options when it comes to wedding favours which can make it very difficult to choose the right one. Consider the following to narrow down your search: Does it match my wedding theme? Will it be useful to my guests? I would opt for a something that you and your spouse love. If you both have a sweet tooth, why not have a candy station where guests can fill a loot bag to take home with them? Or if you have the time, make one of your favourite preserves or baked goodies for each of your guests to enjoy.
*Thanks so much to Liz and Danielle over at Gush Events for these great tips on how make your wedding unique, and completely personal.
